Country Questionnaire results

I asked my target audience what artists are you most interested in and the majority picked Justin Moore. This means that I will have an interview with Justin Moore in my magazine.
I asked my target audience how much you they pay for and they choose £0-£0.99. This means that my magazine will be priced between these prices.
I asked my target audience what title most attracts them and they choose (TCB) Take country back and (GAC) Great American Country. This means I will have to choose between the two.
I asked my target audience what colour scheme most attracts them and they said white, black and red. This means that white, black and red will be the colour of my magazine.
I asked my target audience what most interests them to buy a magazine and the majority said free stuff. This means that I will give away free stuff with my magazine.

I asked my target audience would they like to access my magazine online and the majority said yes meaning that my magazine will be online as well.

The ideologies that my magazine will be promoting will be that you can only be successful if you focus on your goals and work hard to achieve them. I will show this by having interviews by artist say how hard they worked to get to where they are today.

Title Block Analysis

The title is music row which shows that this is a place where we can go and get country music updates as it sounds like a place in the country, the title is also grey and black which gives it a black and white effect this gives the magazine a serious feel to it. The fount of the title is in capital letters and is in a kind of block/ bubble writing format this gives it a country theme as the colour of the letters get darker this would appeal to the target audience more and make them want to buy the magazine the magazine is also set in Nashville which is a place where country music is often played this shoes clearly who the magazine is aimed at. I would say that the target audience for this magazine aimed at people in the music industry that are in to country music or folk music. The ideologies for the magazine would be to fine new artist that are making it big in the music industry, and others in the music industry who want to make their music big and share their music with others, this is shown by the puff in the sweet spot saying ‘Artist Roster the 2011 report’.

The title is classic fm which shows the genre of the music is going to classical music, the format of the title are in capitals and are in no specific style but look classic as they are spaced out and are not really bold it is thin the colour used is black which is a simple colour and is sophisticated however the colour of the f in fm is red and is in a kind of calligraphy writing and is like the symbol Forte which is often used as piano to indicate contrast, which shows how different the magazine is in contrast to all other music magazines.
The title XXL could possible stand for Extra Extra Large as the title is also quite big and it could say that the magazine has the biggest interviews and best music update, the title is also in a red background and the letters are capitals and in the colour white the tells me that the magazine’s target audience are men aged between 18-25.the ideologies of this magazine would be to see lots of interviews from male stars and music updates from the music genre R&B.

The title sugar is the name of something sweet, the title is also blue with stars on in this says that the target audience for this magazine could be girls aged 10-13 as the starts on the title seem very childish and the fact that the title is sugar which is sweet show that its defiantly for girls as people say that girls are made of all things sweet. The stars on the title also show the genre of the magazine which is pop this is shown as people in the pop industry are called pop star. The ideologies for this magazine would be to see lots of interviews from pop stars and lots id information about what’s going on in the pop world.

NME main article analysis

NME uses pictures to show what is happening on each page/section of the magazine, the pictures that have been chosen are pictures of the main articles in each section of the magazine. The magazine seems to be well organised and put in a certain order with the main article’s picture being first, and the picture for live gig reviews being the biggest the magazine designers have probably done this because this the gig reviews are probably the thing that interests the target audience. The magazine is probably done in an organised way because its target audience is men.
The type of font used is a straight forward and simple text there are no fancy effects used this also shows that the magazine is for a mature audience. The colours used are orange; black and white this matches the fount cover which shows that this could possibly be the house style of this band as it is used throughout the article.
On the first page there is an article about the gig almost like a review, but when you turn over the page there is a break in the middle of the review and there is bit about a member of the band then there is the review continued then another piece about a member in the band. Under the review and pieces about the band there is a tour evaluation. This tells me that this magazine article is possible for readers that don’t like to just read the same thing for a long time as they might get board but it is also for an audience that likes to know what the band is thinking and what they are up two.
There are no promotional features used in this article showing me that this magazine’s aim is to maybe draw in a crowd that loves the band and not the free stuff that comes with them.
The logo is place at the bottom of the page by the page number and the date that the magazine was published the title of the magazine is also very small showing that it is not really important that the important thing is the band.

Contents page analysis

The magazine uses one big picture that is to the side and is involved with competition, there is also a small picture at the bottom of the editor and to guys form different bands, this shows that there are not really and pictures scattered around the page instead it is very organised this supports the idea that the target audience are mature men aged 18-25 I can see this as there are only 3 pictures on the page.
The colours used are black and white there are also hints of red used as well this goes with the target audience as the target audience is men and they don’t like lots of pictures. This supports the front cover as there are not many pictures on the front cover there is just one big one and then some small ones. There is a house style as the same colours have been used on the front cover and the contents page.
The information is organised so that everything is in order and is in different sections. The different sections are Feedback, News, Live reviews, Posters, Features, Albums, Gig guide and the ultimate rock star test. This tells me that the magazine likes to real their audience in and the section get more interesting as the magazine progresses. There are promotional features used in the contents page they are computations.
The magazine logo is placed at the top of the page and is dominant as it says ‘Kerrang! Contents’ this reminds readers that they are reading a Kerrang! Magazine and everything in it was done by the people who work with Kerrang!

Analyses of a magazine front cover 2

The title is pink with stars on it showing that the target audience for this magazine could be young teenage girls aged 10-13.
The puff’s around the page are to the left side of the magazine which is the sweet spot where readers eyes go after looking at the title  and are next to secondary images this doesn’t confuse young readers and lets them see what inside as pictures will interest them more on the front cover than just words.
The buzz words on the front cover of the magazine is ‘cheap’ and ‘A-List overload’ these words are used as a perceive technique to try and get readers to buy the magazine they do this as everyone likes cheap things and the fact that they are things that celebrities own make the audience want to see what they are and how much they are. The fact that there is an A-list overload makes the readers want to buy the magazine as it makes them want to find out what a- list celebrity interviews there will be.
The anchorage text is connected with the picture as it says ‘romantic revelations as 1D get emotional.’ The anchorage text is in a graphic feature which is a pink heart this will draw the audience in and make them want to read more.
The central image is of the band One Direction who are all together showing that they are together as one unit and wearing pale colours to go with the target audience they are all using direct address to connect with the audience more and make them want to buy the magazine as it will make the one direction fans feel bad if they don’t buy the magazine, they are also smiling this will attracted on direction fans to buy the magazine more as it will make them see the one direction band as friendly band .  The one direction band is lined in a diagonal line but all their faces are in line with each other but there pictures get further away the longer the line is this is because the one direction fans maybe like on band member more than the others and so this is what will make the magazine sell.
The main colures used for the magazine are pink light pale mint green white and black all these colours relate to the target audience for the magazine which are young girls as the colour scheme is friendly for them.

Analysis of Magazine cover

Denotation
Connotation
Title
Kerrang! Is black and cracked (shown by white lines)
Onomatopoeia of the sound of a guitar the fact that is cracked shows that the sound could have cracked the logo.  This shows that the target audience is men.
Central image
The central image is of Biffy Clyro
This shows that they are a main selling point of this magazine the lead member  This shows that they are a main selling point of this magazine the lead member of the band is in white which makes him bright as the other members and everything else around him is black his head is super imposed over the title there is low key lighting on  his face.
Anchorage text
‘Biffy Clyro
Unfold the puzzle of life...’
Biffy Clyro is in bold and in white to go with what the lead member is wearing, the fact that underneath this it says Unfold the puzzle of life...  crates mystery as the lead members face has not got a lot of lighting on it and it creates more mystery.
Buzz words
Free!, plus!
The first Buzz word is free this draws the attention of the readers and makes the  magazine more desirable. The second Buzz word is plus this will also make the readers want to read it more.
Secondary images
Two other bands and a singer
These pictures are small and are at the bottom of the cover this is so that if the big pictured band doesn’t interest readers to read the magazines hopefully these bands will.
Colours
Black. white and red
The main colours used on the cover are white. Black and red. Black and white are mostly used this shows how bold the magazine is. The red is used to highlight extra articles and promotion that the magazine is doing.
Font
The fount of the title looks cracked and the other writing looks big and bold.
The title is cracked as Kerrang is a loud sound that is made by an electric guitar this is why the title is cracked to show how loud the sound is. The other writing is bold this is to make sure readers could read the writing clearly and to make sure that the writing catches the readers eyes.
Special offers
There are free posters and extra interviews inside the magazines.
These would make readers want to buy the magazine more as they would like to read the interviews and most readers love free stuff so if would make them want to buy it more.

Britney Spears front cover

A medium long shot and a high angle is used to show how young she is and how vulnerable. The photo used looks like it has been taken as a long shot and then cropped into a medium long shot. Britney is hardly wearing anything showing of her body this shows her as having the perfect body and being the perfect teen. This magazine looks like it is amid at teens as the image shows that has the perfect body that many teen girls would want. Britney has a the child’s toy Tinky Winky from Teletubies with her which shows as being young and still being a child however she is holding a phone in her next hand showing that she might be young but she’s not that young, or that she is going from being a girl to an adolescent. Britney is shown to be on a bed and she is in her underwear this gives her sex appeal and shows as maybe growing up and not being a baby, any more. Britney has the child’s toy Tinky Winky from the Teletubies this in an intertexual reference as the Teletubies is a famous children’s TV show and the fact that Britney uses the toy shows that she is still a child. The back ground colour used is pink to show Britney as a very feminine girl, Britney is wearing a white cardigan this draws attention to the outline of her body, she is also wearing a black bra and black outlined under wear this would draw attention to those parts of her body. The title of the magazine is gray and behind Britney’s head so you cannot see it clearly showing that it is not the brand of magazine that is the selling point it is Britney.

The frame has been made diagonally and it looks like it was originally a long shot but was cropped to be a medium long shot. Britney is just shown to be wearing just underwear and nothing else this makes it seem like she is flirting with the audience. Britney is shown to have sex appeal in this cover. You can’t really see where the picture is set but Britney is surrounded by the colour white, showing her innocents, it also draws attention to her body and that is what will grab the readers eye to want to buy the magazine. The lighting is very bright around Britney this is to insure that all focus is on her. The title of the magazine it in electric blue showing clearly what the magazine is this could be because if Britney doesn’t persuade the audience to buy the magazine the brand of the magazine will.

The type of shot used is a close up shot used. The reason a close up shot is uses is to show Britney’s emotions which show that she looks upset about something. This image has been chosen because it shows how upset she is and it uses direct address with the audience as it will make the audience connect with her more, and feel sympathy for her. The fact that black and white has been used makes the audience focus more on the emotion on Britney’s face that what she looks like. The image has been cropped so that there is more focus on Britney’s face that her surroundings. The light shines more on Britney face making the audience see her face and creates a sad atmosphere as Britney’s face is sad. Britney wants the audience to feel sorry for her and know that she is sad; this is shown through the anchorage text saying ‘Britney Spears inside an American tragedy’ this will make the audience want to read her story and support her, through her tough time.
